15 Years, 64 Legends

When the National Pest Management Association’s (NPMA’s) PestWorld 2011 concluded in October, 2011, 64 industry legends — including three couples — will have been inducted into the esteemed Pest Management Professional (PMP)
Hall of Fame.

To further honor these difference makers — professionals who truly have gone above and beyond to advance the pest management industry — we recently launched http://www.pmphalloffame.com, comprising 61 profiles of our
Hall of Famers (three features cover couples), as well as coverage (photos and videos) from past induction ceremonies.

We also partnered with New York-based Bug Off Pest Control Center to purchase 8-by-6-inch plaques featuring bronze, 3D etchings of each of our Hall of Famers. These will be showcased at Purdue University thanks to PMP Hall of Famer Dr. Gary Bennett and the rest of his Boilermakers team.

Fifteen years after our first Hall of Fame class was inducted in 1997, amazingly, the caliber of industry icons being inducted in 2011 was as strong as ever. Please join us in saluting our PMP Hall of Fame Class of 2011:

William E. Blasingame Sr.

Julius C. Ehrlich (posthumous)

Dr. Roger E. Gold

Victor Hammel

Raymond “Ed” Scherzinger (posthumous)

The Pest Management Professional (PMP) Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held on Oct. 19, 2010, at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The PMP Hall of Fame honors those who have demonstrated superior dedication to the pest management industry through leadership, education and service.
More than 100 industry insiders, including PMPs, manufacturers and past honorees, gathered at the Hilton Hawaiian Village’s Coral Ballroom to honor this year’s inductees.
Family, friends and colleagues of Bob Kunst, Allen James, Dr. Charles Wright, and posthumous inductees Paul Adams and Charles Pomerantz, paid tribute to their accomplishments by recounting stories and memories, both professional and personal.
Inductees are chosen by their peers through voluntary nominations. The final selection is made by an anonymous committee of knowledgeable industry representatives.

Honor & Fame

Industry legends, past Hall of Fame inductees, family and friends of the pest management industry and esteemed guests turned out on the eve of NPMA’s PestWorld 2009 for the black-tie event to celebrate the careers of the PMP Hall of Fame Class of 2009: Joe Thomas, Sandee and Al Burger, Motokazu Hirao and Jacques Hess.
Held at The Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, the 2009 PMP Hall of Fame banquet drew more than 150 invited guests. The evening began with a cocktail hour where old friends reminisced and shared memories.

Following dinner, PMP magazine publisher George Casey welcomed everyone and introduced the event’s sponsors — Michael Weisburger of PlanetPCO and Andy Linares of Bug Off Pest Control Center. PMP Editorial Director Frank H. Andorka Jr. took the stage next, and officially started the inductions for the Class of 2009.
After a short video history of their careers, each inductee took the stage to receive their award and say a few remarks. Thomas, CEO of Arrow Exterminators, noted the strong support from his family as the reason for his success; while the Burgers, retired owners of “Bugs” Burger Pest Control, urged those in attendance to treat their employees with respect.

Hirao, from the Japanese Pest Control Association, expressed his gratitude for the influence the U.S. pest management industry has had on his career. Geoffrey Hess, grandson of this year’s posthumous inductee Jacques Hess, shared some heartwarming memories of his grandfather.

Inductees are chosen by their peers through voluntary nominations, and one winner is appointed posthumously by the magazine’s staff. In addition, PMP Hall of Fame inductee names are permanently displayed on a plaque in their honor at Purdue University’s Smith Hall in West Lafayette, Ind.
